Follow the Numbers

This site is for those numbers that are so large that we do not have any, naturally occurring size or volume examples in our everyday lives to help us relate to them..

At this site we have found a way to give every user a reliable & precise visual sense of reference.

This site uses the actual size or "volume" of 1 grain of rice to then fill up [with that rice] a variety of containers with sizes (or volumes) that we are all familiar with; like:

1 Teaspoon, 1 Tablespoon,
1 Cup, A Gallon of Milk, a
5 Gallon Office water jug , etc.;
to make visual comparisons that are absolutely CLEAR and EASY.

We purposely connect these large numbers to these containers by:

  1. we give 1 grain of rice a set cash value of say $100,000 & say
  2. 1 tablespoon can hold 1,000 grains of rice or $100,000,000.
  3. All of the other larger volumes are just simple volume multiples of 1 tablespoon, such as: 16 Tablespoons is equal to 1 cup, 2 cups equals 1 pint, 4 pints equals 1 gallon, etc.
  4. And therefore the amount of money that the larger containers represent is a simple multiple of the [$100,000,000] Tablespoon.
Some notable Reference points are 1 Gallon= 25.6 Billion & A 42 Gallon Barrel=1.075 Trillion]

In this way all of the easily recognizable container volumes can be matched with a precise NUMBER of rice grains... which is then equal to a precise CASH VALUE per container!

This makes the comparisons much easier. For example:

Since 1 Rice grain= $100,000
10 Rice Grains= $1,000,000
1,000 Rice Grains= $100 Million or $100,000,000 dollars
That 1,000 grains= 1 Table Spoon

You must know English Measures to go further up in size: [I didn't, but Thankyou Google😎] that there are 16 tablespoons(tbs) in 1 cup. So 16 Tbs = 1 Cup

$100,000,000 x16 = $1.6 Billion or 1 Cup= $1,600,000,000

2 cups make 1 Pint = $3.2 Billion
4 cups [or 2 pints] = 1 gallon so
1 cup x4; or 1 pint x2= 1 Gallon
1 Gallon= $ 6.4 Billion
